THE FAIRY AND THE WOLF:
I Present to you another wood carving work (woodcraft) inside my main theme, the "human-animal" sculptures. When we imagine the picture of a fairy, visualize a being who symbolizes harmony, peace, balance, harmony and tenderness. We could not expect anything different from that in the case of a figure that represents the fusion of a female human image with butterflies. This insect is one of the few existing that brings good feelings to humans, perhaps by the beauty and magnificence of its wings.

However, what about the image of a fairy with harsh features, inharmonious face, dragon nails and offensive posture ? Something paradoxical! That's not the image naturally associated to the fairy´s figure, which carries divergent characteristics of these aspects.

The real suggestion exposed in this woodcarving work relates to the erroneous view that we are conditioned to create regarding some animal figures. We are conditioned to see the female figure with fragility. Likewise, we are teached to intelace the  butterfly figure preferably to tenderness and harmony. These ways of conception confuse our perception of the true nature that exists in women and several animals.

Wood: Marupá (brazilian wood)
Dimensions: 51cm x 36cm x 4cm

The woman is not a fragile being (perhaps more strongest than man in almost everything). The butterfly, similarly, it is not a fragile being. The fusion of these two images in fairy´s picture suggest, wrongly, that we would have something exponentially weak. To put all of this merge before a wolf with colossal proportions (one skilled hunter, fierce and wild) provides powerful evidence of incalculable greatness inside the woman-butterfly fusion, force known only by those who can see the real and complex nature of the human and animal world.
