THE PROTECTED ESSENCE
In this wood carving, I try to show to the people, through symbolism, how complex is the human-animal relationship in mention to the balance, coexistence between species, and competition for space and resources.
There are two human figures with some physical animals elements (one at each end of the piece) moving toward a symbol in the center.
Two faceless entities (only hands visible) protect, in this piece, the "central" element, the "essence".
The essence is represented by a symbol of the earth element (tree), the object of desire of both human figures, animals, and, therefore, an object of great dispute. It is the source from where derives the power and resources to several animals.
The hands symbolize something that´s, at the same time, enabling and forbidden, an element that berates on the one hand, but on the other hand creates possibilities.
Wood: Tauari-branco (brazilian wood)
Dimensions: 72cm x 20cm x 4cm
They (the hands) put a barrier in front of the human-animal figures keeping the "essence protected". When this element is safe, something greater are possible (the balance).
Without this protection, one of the human-animal figures will take differential advantage, and with it, the balance will be compromised, and may be lost.
This woodcarving leads us to an "atmosphere" that shows the importance of this message. What is the most important, the essence, needs to be kept for harmonic co-existence.
