LION MAN´S FACE
In this wood carving, I would like to show to the people contradiction evident in the fusion of an animal face with a human face, a face that suggests wear and weakness while wisdom and majesty, something so common in the complex relationship between humans and animals.
A face of a lion with features of human physiognomy. Marks and wear facial expression are easy to perceive in this artwood.
The king of the animals, soveireign in the wild world, with an image, in this woodcraft, linked to some symbols of weakness, helplessness and fragility that we usually see in a human being over 60 years old with face full of facial expressions.
A representive phallic symbol power is associated to elements totally wear and worn, related to decay and lack of strength.
Wood: Vinhático-do-campo (brazilian rare wood)
Dimensions: 60cm x 23cm x 4cm
Alongside all this description, we have, also, paradoxically, the strength of the natural image of the lion being linked to wisdom, knowledge and integrity, features highly associated with older humans, with face full of "expression marks."
There is a dialogue altogheter contradictory present in this woodcarving, where we can see the strength and power walking side by side with the fragility and weakness.
